FIELD: applicable for quantitative estimation of ecological safety of use of wood materials or articles made of them in rooms, in particular, at the use of finished and non-finished wallboards, furniture containing and liberating, for example, formaldehyde. SUBSTANCE: method consists in arrangement of the specimen in the closed cavity of the test chamber and test of the material specimen for liberation of contaminant by it at simulation of the conditions of its service. Additionally determined is the value of the maximum saturation of the material under test at which the concentration of the contaminant equals the maximum permissible concentration or permissible level of this contaminant in domestic, public and working rooms. EFFECT: expanded potentialities of the method due to determination of the maximum saturation of the volume by the wood material or articles made of it under test, at which no concentrations of the contaminant liberated from the material exceeding the maximum permissible concentration, permissible level or some other standard for the given contaminant are created in the volume. 4 cl
