METHOD FOR TEMPORARY CLOSING-DOWN OF SUBMERGED COMPARTMENTS OF NUCLEAR POWER INSTALLATIONS FOR LONG-TIME STORAGE Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

Abstract RU 2212070 C2

FIELD: nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: method involves filling reactor compartment with liquid solution of solidifying materials. At least two holes are made in compartment body of which one is provided in its top part. Reactor compartment is filled with liquid solution of solidifying materials through second hole over pipeline. Mentioned solution is essentially mixture of inorganic astringents. Mixture incorporates salt-electrolyte having specific gravity of 1.2-1.3 g/cu. cm, magnesium oxide, and material resistant to water leaching, such as silicon oxide. Liquid displaced in the process from compartment is conveyed through hole in its top part to liquid radioactive waste storage tank for their further recovery. Proposed method makes it possible to solve problem of temporary closing- down of submerged reactor compartments with aid of cheap natural materials ensuring reliable nuclear, radiation, and environmental safety during their long-time storage. EFFECT: facilitated handling of submerged reactor compartments in their lifting and conveying to long-time storage locations. 1 cl, 1 dwg
