FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves increasing mass-exchange intensity by turbulent mixing and providing melt wavy surface in vacuumizer through-flow bath; increasing kinetic energy of processed metal flow at outlet end of vacuumizer by intensifying circulation of melt flows in suction and drain channels regularly narrowing in direction of circulation, said channels being defined by internal surface of vacuumizer submerged part and partition wall adjoining thereto; carrying out side or combined purging of melt with gas (side purging process being preferably performed in pulsed mode); introducing gas-and-metal mixture into through-flow bath in pulsed mode; providing vortex melt flow in narrowing channels. Apparatus has vacuumizer with submerged part having conical internal wall, partition wall longitudinally attached in inclined position to said conical surface so as to define suction and drain circulation channels narrowing in direction of circulation. Partition wall is inclined to vacuumizer axis at an angle of 13-21 deg. Effective section in lower cut of vacuumizer submerged part may be made elliptical. Partition wall is positioned in parallel with short diameter of said ellipse. Partition wall may be made helical. Lower cut of submerged part may be made shaped, i.e., in the form of single-sided or double-sided chamfer with apex positioned on lower end of partition wall and chamfer angle being below 45 deg. Method and apparatus may be used for vacuum processing of liquid metal beyond furnace. EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved quality of metal. 20 cl, 9 dwg
