FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention is dealing with spent acid formed during wet cleaning of emission gases containing sulfur dioxide and coming from pyrometallurgic production of metals in smelting furnace. Spent acid is concentrated simultaneously being freed of larger part of heavy metals, halogens, and antimony. Purified acid is then passed into gas space of smelting furnace.
