FIELD: heterogeneous synthesis of ammonium and methanol. SUBSTANCE: proposed reactor has outer housing and at least one catalytic layer of radial or axi-radial type with opposite perforated cylindrical walls for inlet and outlet of gas. Proposed method includes mounting non-perforated cylindrical wall in reactor whose axis coincides with axis of outlet wall of catalytic layer which embraces section of upper part of outlet wall in such way that free space is formed for passage of part of gas escaping from catalytic layer. Plug closing free space between perforated and outlet walls is provided inside reactor at upper edge of outlet wall , thus preventing motion of gases past catalyst or circulating them in closed cycle inside reactor.
