FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical industry and can be used particularly for synthesising ammonia, methanol, formaldehyde or styrene. Catalyst layers are put on the axis of a cylindrical body of a radial reactor. The layers have inlet sides, through which gaseous reagents enter, and outlet sides through which a reaction mixture comes out, and several heat exchangers distributed on the circular part of the layers. In the first catalyst layer heat exchangers are only placed on the part of this layer near its outlet side. In the second layer heat exchangers are only placed on the part of this second catalyst layer near its inlet side. In the method of catalytic synthesis, gaseous reagents are passed through the first adiabatic zone in the first catalyst layer, and then through the first pseudoisothermal zone in the first catalyst layer, through the second pseudoisothermal zone in the second catalyst layer and, finally, through the second adiabatic zone in the second catalyst layer.
EFFECT: increased conversion output of reactors with simultaneous reduction of energy consumption, capital expenditure and expenses on servicing and repair.
