FIELD: oil spills clean-up. SUBSTANCE: preparation of disperse hydrophobic oil sorbent from peat comprises preliminarily drying the latter, briquetting it, laying briquettes on trays in sealed chamber, and thermally treating briquettes for 3.5-5 h at 270-300 C under anaerobic conditions, after which sorbent is cooled and heating-caused depression in chamber is compensated after the end of heating by feeding inert gases or water into chamber until temperature within chamber drops to 90-100 C. Thermally treated briquettes are ground to form fraction -3 mm. EFFECT: enabled preparation of floating sorbent with high oil capacity. 2 cl, 2 dwg, 2 tbl
