FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, more specifically, methods of steel melting in electric-arc furnaces. SUBSTANCE: method provides for use in charge composition of low-melting carbon-containing complex flux on ferrite calcium base. Replacement of solid iron-containing oxidizing material and main fluxes with low-melting carbon-containing complex flux amounting to 2-4% of iron charge weight to metal charging and 1-4% of iron charge weight for renewal of oxidizing slag provides for quick formation of highly active slag with basicity CaO/SiO2≥2,0 and intensifies process of oxidation of impurities and assimilation of oxidation products. Due to use of carbon-containing complex slag, savings of iron-ore sinter in 100-t electric-arc furnaces amounts on the average to 43 kg/t; fluorospar, 0.7 k/t; and lime, 21.6 kg/t. Time required for melting of iron charge is reduced by 6.0-6.25%. EFFECT: reduced material and energy consumption and intensified process of steel melting in electric-arc furnaces.
