METHOD FOR MAKING SELF-FIRING ANODE Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

Abstract RU 2215065 C2

FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, possibly production of aluminum by electrolysis. SUBSTANCE: method for making self-firing anode with lateral electric current supply at current intensity in range 86 -100 kA comprises steps of periodically charging into anode body anode mass containing coke mixed with pitch having softening temperature in range 125 - 145 C; formation of liquid and sintered portions of anode; sustaining temperature of liquid portion of anode in range 180 - 220 C and its height in range 40 - 50 cm while keeping electric current density of anode in range 0.96 - 1.2 A/sq cm. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of cell with such anode, lowered specific consumption of raw material, improved thermal resistance of anode. 1 dwg, 1 ex
