METHOD FOR MAKING SELF-FIRING ANODE Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

Abstract RU 2215066 C2

FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, possibly production of aluminum by electrolysis. SUBSTANCE: method for making self-firing anode with lateral electric current supply at current intensity 70 - 85 kA comprises steps of periodically charging into anode mass consisting of coke mixed with pitch coke having softening temperature 100 - 124 C; formation of liquid and sintered portions of anode; sustaining temperature of liquid portion of anode in range 170 -200 C and its height in range 40 - 50 cm while keeping anode electric current density in range 0.8 - 0.95 A/sq cm. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of cell, lowered specific consumption of raw material, increased thermic strength of anode. 1 dwg
