FIELD: food industry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of and device for sterilization of sheet packing material of type used for packing liquid food products such as milk, tomato puree, yogurt, fruit juices, wine, tea, etc. According to proposed method hydrogen peroxide is applied to sheet packing material and then latter is subjected to irradiation with light including at least one wavelength in ultraviolet range between 200 nm 320 nm. Method includes also intermediate stage of removal of hydrogen peroxide from surface of sheet packing material preserving residual or trace amount of hydrogen peroxide on any microorganisms after stage of application and before stage of irradiation. Said residual or trace amount of hydrogen peroxide adsorbed by any microorganism or adjacent to any microorganism present on packing sheet material is exposed to ultraviolet irradiation creating synergism between ultraviolet light and hydrogen peroxide hydrophiliocally adsorbed by any microorganisms present on packing material.
