FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for preparing polysulfide lye. Methods involve treatment of white sulfate lye with air in the presence of heterogeneous catalyst. Catalyst comprises active component oxides and/or hydroxides, and/or hydrosulfides, and/or sulfides of metals with transient valence, modifying addition - organic bases and/or heteropolyacids on polyethylene or polypropylene used as a polymeric carrier. By other variant method involves using also one or some compounds with transient valence as an active component, fusing agent and carbon-containing material as a modifying agent on clay as a carrier. Invention provides the enhancement of economy of process and simplified equipment shaping. Invention can be used in paper and pulp industry for preparing boiling solutions containing sodium polysulfide used for carrying out polysulfide boiling cellulose.
