FIELD: waste water treatment. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to treatment of aqueous solutions in order to removing toxic sulfur compounds (hydrogen sulfide, organosulfur compounds, sulfites) by oxidizing them into nontoxic compounds (thiosulfates, sulfates, sulfonic acids, and sulfoxides) and can be used to clean waste and return waters, to regenerate absorption solutions, to treat process solutions from entertainments of paper-and-pulp, petroleum processing, petrochemical, chemical, mining, and other industries. Treatment of aqueous solution is effected through air oxygen oxidation in presence of heterogeneous catalyst, which contains, as active component, 15- 50% of variable-valence metal oxides and, as supplementary component, 0.5- 20% of modifying additive, in particular organic bases and/or heteropolyacids supported by polyethylene or polypropylene. In another embodiment of invention, 15-50% of one or more variable-valence metal oxides are used as active component combined with 50- 10% of an organosilicon base (fusing agent) and 0.5-20% of carbon-containing material (modifying additive) supported by clay.
