FIELD: optical systems for checking web of material having stripes in machine for making cigarettes or other similar equipment. SUBSTANCE: method for detecting stripes having non-standard width or non- standard spacing between them comprises steps of illuminating web surface with irradiation providing reflected images; detecting said reflected images by means of pickup and forming electric signals representing above mentioned images. Method also comprises steps of processing said electric signals for determining presence or absence of stripes on web and forming output signals; analyzing said output signals for detecting non-standard stripes and forming pick value corresponding to pick value of electric signals. Method may comprise steps of forming threshold signal in the form of percentage value of pick value; comparing threshold value with electric signals for detecting presence of non-standard stripes on web. Cigarette made with use of zone of web material having non-standard stripes is rejected. EFFECT: possibility for detecting non-standard zones of web material and rejection of cigarettes made of material with such zones. 15 cl, 18 dwg
