SUBSTANCE: device for using a rod-shaped product in production comprises a supplying unit for providing a sheet material; a cutting unit for cutting a piece of sheet material provided by the supplying unit to obtain a corresponding cut-out area in the sheet material; a positioning unit for positioning the sheet material in a cutting position in which said piece is cut from the sheet material; a detector in functional communication with the positioning unit for determining the cutting position, so as to allow the combination of the rod-shaped product and the cut-out area; a unit for removing a cut piece; and a wrapping unit for producing a sheet material comprising a cut-out area and for wrapping a sheet material comprising a cut-out area at least around of a part of the rod-shaped product, the removal unit comprising a detection unit for detecting a piece cut from the sheet material and for supplying an information signal indicating the presence or absence of a cut piece.
