FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: according to proposed method, liquid ammonia is preferably added to exhaust gases of internal combustion engine from special reservoir along feed pipeline through meter by means of meter control means and/or meter regular to be used as reduction substance. Liquid ammonia is added synchronously with each exhaust stroke from combustion chamber and/or with phase shift relative to said stroke in metered out quantities corresponding to amount of nitrogen oxide. Metered out liquid ammonia addition coordinated in duration and amount makes it possible to maintain low level of installed catalyst converter. EFFECT: increased efficiency of neutralization of exhaust gases containing nitrogen oxides. 22 cl, 2 dwg
