FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in exhaust gas cleaning systems of vehicle internal combustion engines. Proposed engine for vehicle is furnished with catalyst converter which can accumulate and release nitrogen oxides. NOx pickup is provided for measuring amount of NOx after said catalyst converter. Engine is furnished with control unit made to provide accumulation of nitrogen oxides in converter up to value not reaching complete saturation with nitrogen oxides. Moreover, control unit makes it possible to provide higher amount of released NOx before catalyst converter or in converter itself. Condition of catalyst converter can be judged basing on measured amount of released NOx.

EFFECT: possibility of revealing defects in converter.
