FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: invention provides description of method and device to control temperature of NOx accumulator at catalytic conversion of exhaust gases of internal combustion engines. Invention is designed for use in diesel engines or engines operating on lean mixtures and in which such amount of heat in form of heat flow W1, W2 is removed from exhaust gas flow in point located before NOx accumulator provided in exhaust pipeline depending on engine operating conditions to provide temperature of NOx accumulator not exceeding maximum tolerable temperature being maintained within preset temperature range. To provide quick temperature rise in NOx accumulator to minimum working temperature, internal combustion engine operates at excess air coefficient lambda ≤1 at least until minimum working temperature is reached. Device has at least one catalyst converter, NOx-accumulator and at least one heat exchanger installed in exhaust pipeline before NOx accumulator. EFFECT: provision of almost complete removal from exhaust gases such components as non- combusted hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides. 25 cl, 2 dwg
