FIELD: cleaning fuels from water and mechanical impurities during operation on board ships. SUBSTANCE: proposed separator has housing , settler with branch pipe for removal of admixtures and fuel supply branch pipe mounted coaxially in upper portion of housing and connected at other end with expansion chamber of deflector whose upper portion is made in form of plate from truncated cone and lower portion is made in form of plate made from cone whose vertex is directed upward; lower plate is provided with unit for straightening flow of fuel which is located in center in center of expansion chamber; said unit is also provided with baffle plate mounted above deflector plate and made in form of plate having shape of truncated cone whose lesser base is directed downward; provision is also made for branch pipe discharging fuel to diesel- generator which is located in upper portion of separator. Separator housing is made in form of vertical cylindrical service tank with filter element mounted in its upper portion and provided with venting pipe union and pipe union for discharge of separated fuel to diesel-generator, as well as pipe union for starting the diesel- generator located in lower portion; service tank of separator is connected with settler and is provided with circular magnet mounted above baffle plate; volume of service tank is determined by the following formula: V = N×gsp×t/60×1000×ρ, where V is volume of service tank ensuring reliable start and warming-up of engine, cu m; N is engine power, kW; gsp is specific consumption of fuel during starting and warming-up, g/kW.h; ρ is specific weight of fuel, g/cu cm; t is time required for starting and warming-up the engine, min.
