FIELD: catalytic recombination of gases. SUBSTANCE: recombination device has at least one catalytic structure 2 disposed in chamber 4 passing gas mixture in the course of safety tank functioning. Catalytic chamber 2 has several sections T1 and T2 in direction of gas mixture flow. First section T1 has catalytic body 6 surrounded by reaction-gas throttling layer 6 in approach flow direction and second section T2 next to first one T1 has at least one catalytic body 6 directly open to gases. Method for catalytic recombination of hydrogen and/or carbon monoxide with oxygen in gas mixture is characterized in that for inserting recombination in reaction gas mixture is brought to catalytic body 6. In the process catalytic body 6 is loaded in section T1 first in direction of flow with partial flow of gas mixture and is fully released from gas mixture only in second section T1.
