FIELD: tobacco industry. SUBSTANCE: sealing member is made at least partly from elastic material and is detachably put onto holder positioned on checking conveyor for supplying therethrough (i.e. through sealing member) of control gas, preferably air, inside article under control. Part of sealing member that is put onto holder has shape allowing sealing member to be arranged only in certain position with respect to checking conveyor. Arrangement of sealing member in strict position on holder is provided prevailingly owing to joining of holder with inner side of sealing member in geometrically closing relationship. Sealing member may not be arranged on holder in any other but correct position. Such construction allows probability of improper mutual orientation of oval-shaped ends of cigars and sealing members to be avoided, otherwise it may happen that oval-shaped end of cigar is turned through 90 deg with respect to sealing member, i.e., when larger axis of oval-shaped end of cigar is aligned with smaller axis of sealing member with the result that either sealing member or end of cigar is damaged. EFFECT: simplified construction allowing sealing member to be set in proper position with respect to noncircular, preferably oval-shaped, articles. 5 cl, 3 dwg
