FIELD: technique and process for controlling of filter-tipped cigarette, in particular, for measuring filter ventilation extent of cigarettes as rod-like objects.

SUBSTANCE: apparatus has cigarette and filter connected to the latter, tip end and ventilation portion provided on filter outer circular surface and adapted for admission of outside air. Apparatus is further provided with transportation path for transportation of filter-tipped cigarette in direction perpendicular to cigarette axis. Apparatus has control station disposed thereon, holder unit for filter, said unit being arranged at one side of transportation path. Filter holder unit is designed so as to be joined to filter-tipped cigarette during passage thereof past control position. Said unit has holder adapted for accommodation of filter and defining first air-impermeable chamber involving filter tip end, and second air-impermeable chamber. Second chamber comprises outer circular filter surface having ventilation portion, transverse path for feeding into second air-impermeable chamber of compressed fluid under predetermined pressure, and discharge path adapted for relieving of pressure from first air-impermeable chamber, and pressure sensor for determining pressure relieved through discharge path. Method involves the steps of forming first air-impermeable chamber including filter tip end; forming second air-impermeable chamber including filter outer circular surface and comprising ventilation portion; forming third air-impermeable chamber including filter tip end; measuring pressure in first air-impermeable chamber upon feeding into third air-impermeable chamber of compressed fluid under predetermined pressure.

EFFECT: provision for quick measuring of filter ventilation and reliable detection of undesired holes in wrapping paper.
