FIELD: cellulose derivatives. SUBSTANCE: radioprotector and potentiating agent containing cellulose derivative and gossypol of formula I: (I) wherein a = 3 wt %, b = 63 wt %, c = 34 wt %, and n= 530-532 is prepared by treating sodium carboxymethylcellulose with degree of substitution 0.65-0.80 with 5- 6% iodic acid aqueous solution in isopropyl alcohol medium at iodic acid solution-to-isopropyl alcohol weight ratio 1:1; washing thus treated sodium carboxymethylcellulose acidified with 6:4 isopropyl alcohol/water mixture; treating with gossypol or gossypol-acetic acid in amounts 10-20% of the weight of initial carboxymethylcellulose and then with potassium hydroxide aqueous solution followed by separating desired product by way of precipitating it with alcohol- or ketone-type solvent. Agent may be applied in the form of pharmaceutical composition with effective concentration of agent as active ingredient together with pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or solvent. Pharmaceutical composition can be provided as tablets or creams.
