FIELD: petrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: in a method of carrying out gas-phase endothermic reactions, in particular hydrocarbon pyrolysis, comprising formation of supersonic stream of reaction gas, providing it with energy high enough to activate it, producing desired product, and isolating it, transfer of energy to supersonic stream of reaction gas being thereby accelerated is effected in expanding space and desired product is obtained by way of subsequent retardation of supersonic stream, which is achieved by narrowing gas stream. Isolation of product is mediated by tempering of gas stream. Reaction gas can be any of methane, natural gas, and other hydrocarbons, whereas desired product can be olefinic or acetylenic hydrocarbons. Reaction gas is also diluted with non-hydrocarbon gas such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen, oxygen, or alcohols. Energy supply is accomplished by any known way, for example additionally using energy of oxidation of a part of substances constituting the stream or using electric discharge power.
