FIELD: environmental protection.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for disposing methane from uncontrolled sources, including preliminary purification and recovery of methane from a methane-air mixture by selective absorption, decomposition of methane in an electric discharge into hydrogen and acetylene, and release of hydrogen from a gas mixture of decomposition products. Method is characterized by the fact that decomposition of methane in an electric discharge and selective release of hydrogen from the resulting gas mixture of methane decomposition products are carried out simultaneously in a single technological cycle and volume, and the separated hydrogen is sent to hydrogen fuel cells, the generated electric energy of which is used to power up disposal process and external consumers. Invention also relates to a device for implementation of said method.

EFFECT: technical result of the invention is to eliminate the shortcomings of the existing methods of methane purification and decomposition and target product isolation (purified methane and hydrogen), to create an energy-free method of methane disposal and device for its implementation with increased service life, cost savings and simplified maintenance.
