FIELD: recovery of non-ferrous metals from used secondary current sources containing nickel. SUBSTANCE: metal charge is reduced in open-hearth furnace before melting to its melting point. Proposed method makes it possible to change main mass of ferric and nickel oxides to metallic phase and to reduce and change remaining part of nickel and ferric oxides to alloy during melting cycle. Introduction of ferrosilicon after melting makes it possible to finally reduce remaining ferric oxide and to tap off slag in burned lime. EFFECT: increased amount of total extraction of nickel and iron to ferronickel. 1 tbl
