FIELD: mechanical engineering; seals of hydraulic machines. SUBSTANCE: proposed shaft standstill seal contains contact sealing pair, and contact sealing par release mechanism formed by two flanges. One of flanges is fixed relative to shafts and the other is installed for axial displacement under action of weights placed between inner conical surfaces of flanges. Pair member butt- joining mechanism is made in form of compression springs acting onto movable flange. Shaft is installed stationary along machine axis. Device is furnished additionally with intermediate housing installed on shaft and in form of two concentric coaxial bushings, inner and outer ones, interconnected through bottom. Release and butt-joining mechanism is enclosed by intermediate housing. Spring-loaded movable flange is hermetically fitted on inner bushing. Fixed flange is hermetically sealed relative to outer bushing. Fixed member of sealing pair is made in form of radial action elastic seal, for instance, cup. Movable member is made in form of coaxial bushing relieved from action of working medium and connected to axially movable flange. Ring separating bushing with radial ribs is installed between flanges of release mechanism of contact sealing pair. Weights are installed between radial ribs of separating bushing.
