FIELD: railway road transport, namely manufacture and restoration of footstep assemblies of cargo cars. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of hot fitting of changeable cover plate of wear resistant steel with normalized hardness onto mechanically worked bearing-stop surface of footstep; using cover plate whose shape corresponds to that of bearing-stop surface of footstep with dimensions equal to difference between nominal size of surface and its size after mechanical working while taking into account interference allowance and whose thickness consists 0.2 - 0.4 of wall thickness; placing cover plate heated until temperature of steel tempering in such a way that it closely adjoins to bearing-stop surface; after cooling realizing interference fit of cover plate along perimeter of bearing surface of part.
