FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention provides method for preparing magnesium chloride raw material for preparation of magnesium via electrolysis of molten salts. In a method including charging raw material into multichamber fluidized-bed furnace, dehydration and chlorination with furnace gases containing hydrochloric acid formed by combustion of chlorine in natural gas while consecutively displacing magnesium chloride raw material through a series of horizontally disposed chambers, and electrolysis of thus obtained anhydrous raw material, magnesium chloride raw material with 2-5% water, according to invention, is charged into furnace and treated with furnace gases fed into chambers of fluidized-bed furnace, temperature of first-chamber bed being 300- 315 C and second-chamber bed 330- 350 C, after which temperature in the third chamber is lowered to 240-250 C and solid sodium chloride is charged into the bed of this chamber.
