FIELD: inorganic compounds technology. SUBSTANCE: invention provides method for dehydration of magnesium chloride salts for preparation of magnesium via electrolysis of molten salts. In a method including consecutive travel of magnesium chloride salts in furnace through a series of horizontally disposed chambers, their dehydration and chlorination with hydrochloric acid-carrying furnace gases, preliminarily dewatered according to invention magnesium chloride salts with 2-5% water are charged into furnace and furnace gases are fed into all chambers of fluidized-bed furnace, while constant difference in temperatures equal to 100-130 C is maintained inside magnesium chloride beds in the first and second chambers, temperature 50-100 C is maintained in the third chamber, and constant temperature difference 200-300 C is maintained for furnace gases in chambers.
