FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy; preparation of carnallite material for electrolysis.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method of processing carnallite dust formed at dehydration of magnesium-chloride material includes delivery of raw material to fluidized-bed furnace, dehydration and entrapping of dust in cyclones. Dust is withdrawn from cyclones into reservoir, loaded into cyclone chamber and is molten in twisted flow of products of combustion of fuel and chlorine at simultaneous dehydration and cleaning from admixtures by chlorination procedure; thus melt of anhydrous carnallite is obtained which is directed for further use. Besides that, melting of carnallite dust is performed at temperature of 700-1200°C at rate of fuel combustion products at cyclone chamber inlet of 60-200 m/s; hydrogen chloride is used as chlorinating material. Finished anhydrous carnallite melt is used as carnallite flux which is directed to electrolyzers for production of magnesium.
EFFECT: reduced consumption of raw materials and reduced power requirements.
