FIELD: detection of sections of soils ( grounds, bottom deposits ) with raised radiation parameters within bounds of examined region. SUBSTANCE: method enables components in composition of sample of soil, ground, bottom deposit to be established qualitatively and quantitatively. Comparison samples least active by radiation parameters, corresponding to these components are selected, their radiation parameters are measured, background values of radiation parameters per each sample are found. Results of their comparison with corresponding background values are used to relate soil ( ground, bottom deposit ) to abnormal if measured values exceed sum of background values and triple root-mean-square deviation. EFFECT: raised authenticity of determination of radiation background and increased accuracy of evaluation of radiation condition of examined object. 8 tbl
