FIELD: waste water treatment. SUBSTANCE: sorbent contains 92% ferric oxide, 7% carbon, 2-10% moisture and has specific surface area 1600 sq.m/g. Preparation of sorbent involves use of solid product obtained from cleaning oil-tankers and coast oil storages. Bottom deposits of oil-tankers and oil storages are subjected to live steam extraction at 120-180 C. In this operation, considerable part of high- melting petroleum products is removed to give products having adsorbed on it petroleum or mazut hydrocarbons. Product is then heated at 250-500 C in absence of air. EFFECT: enabled preparation of efficient and inexpensive sorbent. 4 cl, 3 tbl
