FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: proposed band-and-shoe brake with controlled mechanical drive has drum with brake pulley mounted and secured on shaft, frame, brake band with running on and off spans, friction linings, support spring and controlled mechanical drive made in form of tension device. Tension device is made in from of screw installed on bearing supports secured on frame, screw being provided with left-hand and right-hand thread sections for reciprocation of nuts. Lower projections of nuts are fitted in frame slot. Ends of running on and running off brake band, spans are hinge-connected to said nuts by means of eyes and bolts. EFFECT: provision of control of brake parameters by regulating tension of brake band spans and changing angle of contact of interacting pairs, improved efficiency and increased service life of friction shoes. 4 dwg
