FIELD: acceleration engineering; generating high-energy electron beams. SUBSTANCE: proposed switch-mode power system has its storage capacitor connected through thyristor to first electromagnet coils which are differentially interconnected in series. Coils of second electromagnet differentially interconnected in series are connected through thyristor to storage capacitor. Low-voltage dc power supply is connected through reactor in parallel with coils cumulatively interconnected in series. With such interconnection of switch-mode power system components only one storage capacitor is used instead two to substitute magnetic-core thyristors of two oscillatory circuits, and only one magnetic-core demagnetizing circuit is used instead of two for first and second electromagnets thereby essentially reducing cost, mass, and size of betatron. EFFECT: reduced cost, mass, and size of betatron. 1 cl, 3 dwg
