FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to gas chemistry and relates to the production of synthesis gas by processing natural/associated gas in an autothermal reforming process. Method comprises passing a gas feed mixture preheated to 300–500 °C, consisting of natural/associated gas, steam and air, through a catalyst. Further, a gas feed mixture containing 0.3–0.5 parts by volume of the required amount of air, is first passed through a portion of the catalyst, and then mixed with the remaining portion of air, followed by changing the direction of movement of the gas feed mixture to the opposite direction and passing through a second portion of the catalyst, wherein the molar ratio of steam and other constituents of the mixture in terms of carbon and oxygen is maintained in the range of C:H2O:O2=1:0.6–1:0.4–0.5.
EFFECT: technical result is increasing conversion of natural/associated gas to a value of at least 85 % with synthesis gas output of at least 7,000 m3/(m3cat·h) and the total residual content of CH4 and CO2 of not more than 5 % by volume.
