FIELD: mechanical engineering; sealing devices. SUBSTANCE: proposed mechanical seal for shaft or machine cylinder has sealing rings lapped to each other at end faces and flexible pressed to surfaces to be sealed. Eccentric ring grooves made in cylinder or on shaft, respectively, and displaced in pairs relative to axis of shaft or cylinder, respectively, by 0.3-0.5 mm in diametrically opposite direction. Said pairs of diametrically displaced ring grooves are turned relative to neighbor pairs of ring grooves so that radial planes passing through axes of said neighbor pairs of grooves are turned relative to each around axis of shaft or cylinder, respectively, through angle of 360o/n, where n is number of pairs of ring grooves. Each groove accommodates flexible ring providing movability of sealing ring in radial direction. Flexible rings are round or rectangular in cross section, and sealing rings are pressed to each other in longitudinal direction by means of spring-loaded bushing with 0.25- 0.3 mm play.
