FIELD: electrical engineering; manufacture of alkali battery plates. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes covering sponge lead with active material layer, two active-layer covered leads being placed one on top of other with active layers inside and compressed, whereupon plate is cut to desired size. For sponge lead use can be made of nickel sponge structure of 0.3-0.8 g/cu. cm density and pore size of 02-1.5 mm. Compression is conducted by applying pressure of 500 to 5 000 kg/sq. cm. Active layer is produced from mixture of powdered active material and binder, proportion of ingredients being as follows, mass percent: active material, 60-100; binder, 0-40. Active material may also contain current-conducting additive in proportion of 10 to 20% of active layer mass. Graphite or carbon black can be used as conducting additive. When binder-free active material is used, size of its particles is greater than pore size of sponge lead. Plates produced by this method are free from crumbling and creepage. EFFECT: enhanced mechanical and discharge characteristics of plate. 7 cl
