FIELD: magnetic separation of loose materials; glass and ceramic industries; mining industry. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes delivery of product to surface of revolving drum inside which magnetic system is located; magnetic system consists of permanent magnets of alternating polarity; proposed method includes also sedimentation of product under action of magnetic forces and re-cleaning of product on surface of drum. Re-cleaning is performed in magnetic field whose frequency of change of polarity exceeds frequency of change of polarity of magnetic field in zone of sedimentation of magnetic product. Proposed method is realized in separator provided with non-magnetic drum mounted for rotation and provided with cleaning plates, magnetic system located inside it; this magnetic system consists of permanent magnets of alternating polarity in way of motion of product. Magnetic system is not homogeneous at different distance between pole axes of magnets; thus, distance between axes of poles of magnets located below horizontal plane which passes through axis of drum is lesser than distance between axes of poles of magnets located above this plane.
