FIELD: shipbuilding; hovercraft breaking ice cover. SUBSTANCE: proposed method is performed by amphibian hovercraft and consists in excitation of resonance flexural gravitational waves in ice cover during running of ship on ice at resonance speed. Ship makes several passes over field of ice to be broken. Number of lanes is limited by number which does not cause increase of vertical component of shipboard air propeller thrust. Repeated passes are performed at critical speed. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of breaking ice cover. 2 cl, 1 dwg
