FIELD: inorganic compounds technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chloride technology of titanium dioxide preparation and may be used in varnish-and-paint industry as well as in papermaking, in fabrication of artificial fibers, plastics, etc. Method comprises generating oxygen or oxygen-containing gas plasma at temperature 1300-3600o on arc plasma generator. Liquid titanium chloride is introduced into plasma jet and oxidized therein, while reaction products are cooling to 1000-1600o and then separated. Titanium dioxide is modified by introducing aluminum trioxide vapors into arc discharge zone of arc plasma generator in amounts providing 0.2 to 10.0 wt % aluminum oxide in desired product. Titanium dioxide is further modified by introducing silicon tetrachloride into arc discharge zone to provide 0.1 to 1.0 wt % silicon tetrachloride in desired product. Additionally, silicon tetrachloride at temperature no lower than 250o is added to the stream of reaction products so providing finally 0.5 to 10.0 wt % silicon tetrachloride concentration. EFFECT: improved quality of titanium dioxide owing to modifying crystalline structure thereof, dimensions, and surface area of the salt. 3 cl, 1 dwg, 1 tbl
