FIELD: biotechnology, microbiology, steroids.
SUBSTANCE: strain Mycobacterium neoaurum deposited in VKPM at number VKPI, Ac-1634, is able to transform animal and vegetable sterols (cholesterol and phytosterols) to androst-4-ene-3,17-dione. The strain provides preparing the end product without impurity of steroids with underoxidized by-side chain in the concentration up to 7-12 g/l in loading the parent sterol from 10 to 30 g/l, respectively. The strain is able to transform phytosterols of any composition effectively.
EFFECT: improved and valuable properties of strain.
