FIELD: treatment of service water, drinking water, natural water and sewage. SUBSTANCE: method consists in using chlorine-containing coagulant whose acid solution is subjected to electrochemical treatment in electrolyzer with nonconsumable electrodes where gas-and-liquid emulsion is obtained which consists of solution of coagulant activated in the course of electrolysis process due to increase of its basicity and gaseous chlorine. Hypochlorite ions formed in the course of electrolysis process enhance disinfecting action of gas-and-liquid emulsion which is directed for treatment of water. As a result, high degree of water purification and 100-% effect of its decontamination are obtained. Process may be performed in continuous mode and decontamination action is continued. EFFECT: high safety of operation at water preparation stations; avoidance of transportation and storage of large amounts of chlorine; reduced areas occupied by cleaning equipment due to absence of chlorine storages and long service lines. 1 tbl
