SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the improved method for preparing 10-(2,3,4-trimethoxy-6-methylphenyl)-decanoic acid ethyl ester that is a semi-finished product used for synthesis of idebenone that represents a medicinal drug with nootropic effect. Method involves hydrogenation of 9-(2,3,4-trimethoxy-6-methylbenzoyl)-nonanoic acid ethyl ester with hydrogen in medium of organic solvent - lower monohydric alcohol in the presence of palladium catalyst on carbon-containing carrier "Sybunit" treated preliminary with sulfuric acid isopropanol solution with the concentration 0.36 x 10-2 kmole/m3. The hydrogenation reaction is carried out on the stationary catalyst and 9-(2,3,4-trimethoxy-6-methylbenzoyl)-nonanoic acid ethyl ester solution is fed continuously to the reaction zone in the amount (1.66 x 10-2) - (8.3 x 10-2) kmole/m3, and hydrogen is fed under the pressure 0.5-6.0 MPa at the feeding rate (0.5 x 10-8) - (12.0 x 10-8) m3/s. Owing to the development of the continuous method the intensification of process is provided with preparing large amounts of the end product.
