FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology, pharmacy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of medicinal substances, namely, to preparing 1-(2,3,4-trimethoxybenzyl)-piperazine dihydrochloride (I) that represents a component of the medicinal preparation trimetazidine. The compound (I) is prepared by interaction of 2,3,4-trimethoxybenzaldehyde with piperazine by catalytic hydrogenation with hydrogen on palladium on carbon as a catalyst at temperature 80-85 C wherein 2,3,4-trimethoxybenzaldehyde is added to reaction gradually. Also, the reaction can be carried out in the presence of catalytic amounts of acetic acid. Method can be utilized in the industrial scale.
