FIELD: data transfer in mobile communication systems.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method and device are designed to control speed of data burst transfer over return link in mobile communication system. According to first alternative of this invention return-link critical speed message includes return link activity bit disregarding field to ensure predetermined data transfer speed for particular access terminal. According to other alternative access probability is given in return-link critical speed message for each data transfer speed. Having received return-link activity bit, access terminal compares random number with access probability for its data transfer speed and raises or reduces data transfer speed according to results of this comparison.

EFFECT: enhanced reliability of data burst transfer over return link of mobile communication system.
