SUBSTANCE: invention relates, in particular, to manufacturing derivatives of terpenes. Preparing derivatives of terpenes, such as verbenol and α-pinene epoxide that are key products in synthesis or perfume substances, medicinal preparations and nutrient supplements also represents significant commercial interest. Invention describes a method for preparing verbenol and α-pinene epoxide involving selective oxidation of α-pinene with molecular oxygen or air to α-pinene epoxide and verbenyl hydroperoxide followed by catalytic hydrogenation of verbenyl hydroperoxide with molecular hydrogen in the presence of metal of platinum group as a catalyst. Invention provides enhancing selectivity in conversion of α-pinene to verbenol and α-pinene epoxide and reducing duration of process.
