FIELD: electrical engineering; treatment of objects and materials, cleaning and sterilization of liquids with ultraviolet rays.
SUBSTANCE: proposed gas-discharge ultraviolet radiation source has microwave oscillator whose coaxial-waveguide external electrode is connected to wall of gas-discharge bowl that receives waveguide central electrode coated with insulation transparent for microwave radiation. Gas-discharge bowl is disposed inside reservoir for medium to be treated. Common walls of gas-discharge bowl and this reservoir are made of material transparent for ultraviolet radiation. Most probable design alternative of ultraviolet radiation source has gas-discharge bowl and reservoir for medium to be treated in the form of circular cylinders with waveguide electrode disposed along their axis from one end of gas-discharge bowl to other. Electrode end extends beyond gas-discharge bowl. The latter and central electrode end extending from this bowl are covered with net made of material that does not pass microwave radiation. Insulation of central electrode and that of gas-discharge bowl wall are made of same material.
EFFECT: enhanced effectiveness of ultraviolet radiation and simplified design of device.
