METHOD FOR PREPARING POLY-1,2-DIMETHYL-5-VINYLPYRIDINIUM METHYL SULFATE Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

Abstract RU 2236418 C2

FIELD: organic chemistry, polymers, chemical technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparing water-soluble high-molecular cationic polyelectrolytes that can be used in different branches of industry for water treatment from suspended impurities. Method for preparing poly-1,2-dimethyl-5-vinylpyridinium methyl sulfate with molecular mass (2.7-3.7) x 106 Da is carried out by polymerization of 1,2-dimethyl-5-vinylpyridinium methyl sulfate in an aqueous medium in the presence of complex initiating system involving tert.-butylperoxypropanol-2 and agent for transfer of chain from the primary radical - acetic acid ester in the amount 10.2-204 mmole/kg of monomer wherein acetic acid ester is used as an agent for transfer of chain from the primary radical. Method provides reducing amount of unreacted monomer and increasing molecular mass of poly-1,2-dimethyl-5-vinylpyridinium methyl sulfate.

EFFECT: improved preparing method.
