METHOD OF CONTROL OF TEMPERATURE IN SECTION OF CONTINUOUSLY CAST SLAB AT HEATING Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

Abstract RU 2237730 C2

FIELD: rolling process; monitoring efficiency of heating metal in heating furnaces before delivery of slabs for hot rolling.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes charging the slab in furnace with blind holes for thermocouples at end face prepared preliminarily, measuring the temperature of slab by placing the thermocouples connected to registering unit in holes. Holes for thermocouples are formed during casting end slab in continuous casting machine. Holes are made by placing the framework whose tubes are filled with non-sintering filler in crystallizer containing molten steel by coordinated of expecting points of measurement of temperature. During subsequent treatment of slab, end with framework is cut and filler is withdrawn from hole, thus preparing them for measurement of temperature. Proposed method may be used for measurement of temperature in slabs made from electrical-sheet steels, alloyed steels, carbon steels and structural steels.
